Editorial & Affiliate Standards
How we make money
EDC Shelf earns commissions when you buy through some of our links, and it sells original merchandise designed in-house. That is the whole model, and it funds the research. It does not decide the verdicts.
Straight disclosure —some links on this page are affiliate links. As an Amazon Associate we may earn a commission when you buy through them, at no extra cost to you. It never changes the price you pay, and it never changes a verdict.
Commissions never buy a ranking
A higher commission cannot move a product up a list, and no brand can pay for a review, a placement, or a score. We rank on the published rubric, full stop. When two picks are close, we say so and tell you what breaks the tie for different carriers — we do not manufacture a winner to sell a click.
No fabricated credentials
Our writers are gear researchers and editors. They hold no tactical, military, or duty credentials, and we never invent any. Bylines describe what a person actually does here — builds the rubric, runs the spec-synthesis, edits the carry beat — and nothing they don’t. Read who they are on the team page.
Corrections & freshness
Gear changes, prices move, and we get things wrong sometimes. When we update a guide, the date you see reflects a real change to the page — we do not stamp a fresh year on stale work to game a feed. Spot an error? Tell us and we will fix it.
Legality & safety
Where laws apply — knife carry especially — we give factual, jurisdiction-neutral information, never legal advice, and we point you to check your own local rules. We do not feature or link automatic, OTF, or ballistic knives, and we frame cutting tools around everyday utility.
How we actually score gear is documented on our methodology page.
