The eight carry bases
Coverage-first is the fastest way to a loadout that works: solve the bases you actually hit, then stop. This is the taxonomy the score is built on.
- Cut
- Boxes, tags, cordage, food
- Light
- A real light, not a phone LED
- Fix
- Drivers, pliers, small repairs
- Secure
- Cards, keys, and trackables held
- Write
- A pen that is actually there
- Power
- Cells and top-ups on hand
- Carry
- A place for all of it to ride
- Time
- The wrist slot, glance-legible
Builder FAQ
What is a coverage score?
Coverage is how many of the eight carry bases your loadout hits: cut, light, fix, secure, write, power, carry, and time. A score of 6/8 with a "missing: write, power" hint tells you exactly what your pocket does not yet solve — so you add on purpose, not on impulse.
Where do the weights and prices come from?
They are estimates drawn from manufacturer-published specs, used for planning totals only. Live pricing always goes through the retailer at the moment you click, since street prices move. Treat the numbers as a realistic budget and pack-weight, not a quote.
Can I share or save my loadout?
Yes. The builder encodes your picks into the page URL as you go, so copying the link — or bookmarking it — saves the exact setup. Send it to a friend and they will see the same items, totals, and coverage.
Can I add gear that is not in the catalog?
Yes. Use the "add your own" row to enter any item’s name, weight, price, and the base it covers, and it folds into your totals and coverage grid alongside the catalog picks.
